Elevating in-house creative to a C-level discussion
I worked at AMD for 11 years, but the last three were the most important. That was when I was asked to create an in-house agency. I scaled the team from 3 to 14 members in the span of three years, driving creative and marketing innovation while saving significant budget compared to agency rates. This quickly got the attention of our CMO, who became an immediate advocate for our value proposition and encouraged our growth model.
I built the first official video team at AMD, which is largely the driving creative force at AMD today. The work below represents a mix of hands-on creative with overall creative direction of other team members. All of it embodies a significant visual change over time that helped to shape AMD's brand today of being a powerhouse in the computing industry.
Scaled team from 3-14 through P&L management
Offset agency fees of $1M in first year of operation
Managed and launched 6 brand refreshes, including guidelines, training and activation
“Michael Lacar epitomized the perfect blend of a creative in a management role. As a manager, he led our team in a very professional and methodical way, communicating objectives and challenges in a manner that kept everyone focused on our goals. As a creative, he was able to lend valuable input form a design standpoint that elevated the quality of our deliverables considerably. Michael's unique style of communication and interaction with team members was also a plus. One-on-one meetings always felt guided and productive. Michael would be a top notch choice in either a creative or manger role (or both).”
